Problem might already have occured in prior versions - as composite effects always were buggy for me, I only give them a try every once in a while. Currently, KDE4 does not even alow me to try out the shiny KDE4 effects. The preferences pane claims that my X-Server would not have XComposite and XDamage support ("xdpyinfo", however, shows "DAMAGE" and "COMPOSITE" extensions enabled, albeit without the "X" ?!). This is with the current 169.12 Nvidia driver (and the beta driver, too) an a Geforce 6200.
