I'm not sure whether this would change anything useful, but let's try. It contains a partial revert of the commit that was mentioned in the upstream bugzilla.
I downloaded the kernel kernel-default-4.12.14-lp150.1.1.g19df83d.x86_64.rpm and did an rpm install, and then updated the bootloader. While booting from this kernel I get an error message "You need to load the kernel first".
