https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803682 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803682#c0 Summary: grub2-efi installation hangs on first boot, before "Automatic Configuration" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: j.a.watson@bluewin.ch QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.14 On an HP dm1-4310, preloaded with Windows 8, gpt partition table and UEFI Secure Boot. I have disabled Secure Boot, and successfully installed Fedora 18 and Ubuntu 13.04 Beta. When trying to install openSuSE 12.3 RC1, selecting grub2-efi as the bootloader, and ensuring that /boot/efi is properly mounted and not formatted, the installation appears to complete normally. However, when using UEFI boot (NOT Secure) on the first boot when it should go through the "Creating Automatic Configuration" screens, it hangs before displaying the first graphic screen. Installing with either grub2 or grub legacy, and then using "Legacy Boot" BIOS support instead of UEFI boot, the first boot completes normally, including the Automatic Configuration. After that boot I configured UEFI booting with the grub2-mkconfig command, and subsequent boots using UEFI work normally. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. During 12.3 RC installation, select bootloader grub2-efi 2. Complete installation and reboot 3. Actual Results: The first boot hangs. If left for long enough, it will usually drop through to some kind of "emergency recovery" boot mode. I have not been able to find anything productive to do in this mode to fix this problem. Expected Results: Automatic Configuration should be done, and the first boot should succeed. I have ONLY been able to try this on this one specific system, as I do not currently have any other UEFI systems. Thus I don't know if this problem is unique to this system or configuration somehow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
