Does the below also produce the bad sound? % aplay -Dhw /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav One thing you could try is to set bdl_pos_adj=0 option to snd-hda-intel. Add bdl_pos_adj=0 to "options snd-hda-intel" line in /etc/modprobe.d/sound file.
