https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206876 Summary: Too long timout blocks software update/installation/removal for 30 minutes Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Zenworks AssignedTo: zlm-code10-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: jtariq@novell.com Before and after today's zmd-update I noticed that in 80% when I wanted to install something, the tool could not get the installation list because zmd was blocking it. The update-icon too took very long to show whether updates were available. I think that I found the reason. I start my computer and see zmd and update-status etc. taking 90% CPU and downloading a lot of data. Not nice, but at least they are working. After some minutes they stop, no CPU activity, no network-activity, nothing. However the update-tool still claims: Getting update list... This takes 30 minutes and the connection I am using is fast and was online all the time. During those 30 minutes one cannot shutdown zmd via rczmd, which is another bug. Yet even worse, one cannot update/install/remove software. Given that zmd updates x times a day, this means that the user cannot perform those tasks x*30 minutes just because one source does not respond. If zmd is not able to answer calls while trying to retrieve some file, then the timeout should be 30 seconds max. in order not to handicap services depending on it. If there are users that want to use a source that does not respond within 30 seconds, fair enough, give them some sysconfig setting to increase it, but do not use 3*5 minutes per file of the user's time by default. 20 Sep 2006 00:20:11 INFO Daemon Starting ZMD version 7.1.1 20 Sep 2006 00:20:11 INFO Daemon Using Mono 1.1.13.8 20 Sep 2006 00:20:11 INFO WebCache Expiring cached files... 20 Sep 2006 00:20:19 INFO KeyManager Loading key whitelist 20 Sep 2006 00:20:19 INFO Daemon Loading trusted certificates... . . . 20 Sep 2006 00:26:17 INFO WebCache Successfully retrieved ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/update/10.1/rep 20 Sep 2006 00:26:40 INFO RedCarpetBackend Updating status of patches... 20 Sep 2006 00:27:06 INFO RedCarpetBackend Finished updating patch status 20 Sep 2006 00:27:06 INFO ServiceManager Successfully added service 'Updates' 20 Sep 2006 00:30:17 INFO WebCache Retrieval of 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/repomd.xml.asc' (try 1) failed: Re 20 Sep 2006 00:30:19 INFO WebCache Attempting to retrieve 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/repomd.xml.asc' (try 2) 20 Sep 2006 00:33:21 INFO WebCache Successfully retrieved ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/repomd.xml.asc 20 Sep 2006 00:33:21 INFO WebCache Attempting to retrieve 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/repomd.xml.key' (try 1) 20 Sep 2006 00:36:24 INFO WebCache Successfully retrieved ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/repomd.xml.key 20 Sep 2006 00:36:24 INFO WebCache Attempting to retrieve 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 1) 20 Sep 2006 00:41:26 INFO WebCache Retrieval of 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 1) failed: Re 20 Sep 2006 00:41:28 INFO WebCache Attempting to retrieve 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 2) 20 Sep 2006 00:46:31 INFO WebCache Retrieval of 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 2) failed: Re 20 Sep 2006 00:46:33 INFO WebCache Attempting to retrieve 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 3) 20 Sep 2006 00:51:36 INFO WebCache Retrieval of 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/repodata/primary.xml.gz' (try 3) failed: Re 20 Sep 2006 00:51:38 INFO ServiceManager Failed to add service 'ftp://download.nvidia.com/novell/' (keeping): Failed to parse XML m 20 Sep 2006 00:51:38 INFO WebCache Expiring cached files... 20 Sep 2006 00:51:38 ERROR ServiceManager Service Refresh Failed: Failed to parse XML metadata: Read timed out. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
