https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=881273 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=881273#c0 Summary: grub2 overwrites /etc/grub.d when first installing or installing a kernel update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: wodenhof@daad-alumni.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; InfoPath.3; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E) grub2 overwrites /etc/grub.d when installing a kernel update. All own previous customizations including their files are lost (e.g. /etc/grub.d/66_fedora is deleted etc.). Older opensuse version 12.3 can't be started either. It resides in my case on /dev/sda5 while opensuse 13.1 is on /dev/sda10. The grub menu now offers to start 12.3 but acutally starts 13.1 with the kernel of 12.3 (kernel 3.7.10) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install 13.1 on any multi-boot machine from the live-CD/DVD. alternatively: Update the kernel on any multi-boot machine. Actual Results: Customizations are completely lost. Expected Results: Output of os-prober should be followed by customized entries in the GRUB2-menu. The original /boot/grub2/grub.cfg should be saved, not overwritten. This is hugely annoying, costs lots of time to straighten and might be unsurmountable for beginners. The thumbnails of the different distro-logos from /boot/grub2/themes/openSUSE/icons are not used. One has to edit grub.cfg for that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
