https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225606 Summary: Grub config/boot loader is ignored with 2 disks Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: volker3204@paradise.net.nz QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I'm having no end of trouble getting a boot loader working first time. System with 2 disks: hda, sda (SATA). Installing 10.2RC1 on sda8. [hs]da{5,6} are each in a RAID1, unused by this installation to sda8. Since it's testing, I'm expertimental and change the default "boot loader into mbr" to "root partition". This is ignored, system boots into the previous Linux on md0(=[hs]da5). Rescue system, chroot to sda8. Setting loader location to mbr, enbling "install generic code to mbr". Same result: no sign of an option to boot into sda8, booting is into md0. Looking at the grub commands in /etc/grub.conf, I conclude that yast is writing (or causing to be written) the mbr code to hda, whereas the BIOS is set to boot from sda/mbr first (or the other way round). Isn't this all really only going to work reliably if yast installs a boot loader in both mbrs?
