Of course users can always install it and try to run it, but will give only problems. I'm not the right person to say it should be ditched, but given the problems with KDE and now GNOME3, considering there won't be a GNOME2 in 12.1, I don't really see any future for Compiz on openSUSE. Furthermore, I don't even believe it's building in Factory.
