They told me that the video=1920x1200@60 option was thought as a replacement but it does not seem to be implemented up to now (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27922). Perhaps you should (not) use a framebuffer module to set the video mode (see: fbset + modprobe /lib/modules/../fb* first)? More likely your framebuffer driver (as usually activated for vt01 /dev/fd0 to show the background bitmap) is what causes problems here (try modprobing/blacklisting different fbs + use fbset).
