Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mmeeks@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I have a: 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) in a T60p. It seems that somewhere between nm-applet and the hardware the kill-switch information gets lost. I'll blame the kernel to start with ;-) I have an apparently working wireless network connection: with local wireless networks detected & all is well. I turn off the kill switch: Jun 9 12:40:09 t60p kernel: Kill switch must be turned off for wireless networking to work. Jun 9 12:40:09 t60p kernel: usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 2 all seems good :-) nm-applet says "Wireless is disabled", of course there is some more unhappy looking sysloggage: Jun 9 12:40:12 t60p kernel: wlan0: Initial auth_alg=0 Jun 9 12:40:12 t60p kernel: wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:0f:3d:47:be:8b Jun 9 12:40:12 t60p kernel: iwl3945: WARNING: Requesting MAC access during RFKILL wakes up NIC Jun 9 12:40:12 t60p kernel: iwl3945: MAC is in deep sleep! Now I turn the kill switch off: I get a certain amount of syslog blurb about the bluetooth usb device which is re-enabled nicely; but (unfortunately) my iwl3945 appears not to want to come back at all: Jun 9 12:41:49 t60p kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 .. but nothing about my wireless card. And (naturally) nm-applet still says "Wireless disabled". So - I get upset, and do: modprobe -r iwl3945 modprobe iwl3945 and bingo - network manager detects the change, local networks - and wireless networking is nominally back :-) I attach the various logs; I'm using: $ rpm -q --changelog kernel-default | head * Wed May 28 2008 teheo@suse.de - patches.drivers/libata-acpi-fix-hotplug: libata: Handle bay devices in dock stations (bnc#390822 bnc#395082). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
