(A bit strange, as I read the output that in both cases "hpet" is not even used.) Strange enough, it's best reproducible during KDE4 startup: This works flawless without hpet, with hpet there is a ca. 20 sec. freeze. The freezes also occur when the desktop is up. Without being able to prove it I think it's during heavy load/heavy I/O-situations. I now run the tumbleweed variant of openSUSE. I have the feeling that the freezes occur less frequently. There is also a warning in the boot messages concerning "TCObase" which seems to be different with the different BIOS settings concerning hpet.
