Are your aliases computed OK? You should see alias acpi acpi_cpufreq here: grep cpufreq /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.alias
Yes, the file contains the line "alias acpi acpi_cpufreq".
I've alredy seen situation where acpi_cpufreq needed to be loaded twice. For the first time it was failing. Isn't this the case? Don't you see errors on bootup?
There are no errors on bootup and nothing related to acpi_cpufreq is mentioned in dmesg and boot.msg.
