Cups is installed I believe, since this is what "zypper -se -si cups" shows S | Name | Type | Version | Arch | Repository --+--------------------+---------+------------+--------+------------------ i | cups | package | 1.5.3-1.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.2-Oss i | cups-client | package | 1.5.3-1.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.2-Oss i | cups-libs | package | 1.5.3-1.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.2-Oss i | cups-pk-helper | package | 0.2.2-1.3 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.2-Oss i | python-cups | package | 1.9.61-1.3 | x86_64 | openSUSE-12.2-Oss i | python-cupshelpers | package | 1.3.9-1.3 | noarch | openSUSE-12.2-Oss 2. Cups does not seem to be running though, because:- output of: ps ax | grep "cups" 5872 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto cups 3. When the Printer module is started it shows the follwoing prompt the first time:- "Restart locally running CUPS daemon" and presents Yes or No as options on the dialog box. I choose to click on Yes. Then it shows: "Rstarted the CUPS daemon. Waiting half a minute for the CUPS daemon to get ready to operate". After about 30 seconds, this prompt disappears and the printer module seems ready to work. But at this stage itself:- output of ps ax | grep cups 6001 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/cupsd -f 6127 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto cups ...and the "Printer" module in GNOME system settings also starts working. So it is the restart of the cups daemon by the YaST printer module that gets everything working. One believes that the cups daemon should be started at boot, but is not. Indeed, now if I reboot, the printer module in gnome system settings says "printing system not available" again. So it is really that cupsd is not getting started at boot time. Hope that helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
