https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=385699 Summary: Installer wants to create swap partition which locks out partitioning entirely Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 1 Platform: i386 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: playfield-bbs@gmx.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- During installation from DVD (Opensuse 11.0B1) the installation program (both GUI and text mode) requests to generate a swap partition or a swap file (why is a swap partition generated at all? Should only be done for low memory conditions) If there is only one partition on the harddisk (for example if you upgrade from an existing MS-Windows system) the installation programm takes the ENTIRE partition/harddisk sda1 as a swap partition and uses it. Therefore the following harddisk partitioning section of the installation program refuses to delete or modify the (already in use) swap partition. This is a complete dead lock, installation cannot be proceeded. Circumvention for the moment: switch to a text terminal (Alt-F2) turn off swapping: swapoff -a use fdisk to setup a convenient swap partition (and other partitions like / and /home) reboot and use the (new and small) swap partition Tested on hardware: laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2035 224 MB RAM (256 MB main - 32 MB for VGA) display 1280x800 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
