I could fix the problems with help of the nntp newsgroup, so here the solution. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. * real bug: "active" and "history" files give on 64 bits install a pointer error. These two files can be recreated by inn utilities makehistory and makedbz and then works. I don't know if the new version works as well in 32 bits. one have to run these two utilities then copy the hitory.n.dir to history.dir, and history.n.pag to history.pag * annoyance: according to the official inn documentation, any setup should be possible as "news" user. For this to be possible, the inn folders have to be owned by news. the inner folders and files *are* already owned by news:news, but not the container, so vi, for example, do not allow file editing. To comply with the documantation following changes have to be done: chown news:news -R /etc/news /usr/lib/news /var/spool/news /var/log/news /var/run/news /var/lib/news chmod 4550 /usr/lib/news/bin/innbind (was 4554) * enhancement: the official inn doc ask for all the file being in the same place for convenience, wich is not the case here as one can see given the folder list already listed. to enhance the work with the less fuzz, it should be possible to add soft linke in /etc/news to these folders, for example: su news - cd ln -s /usr/lib/news/bin bin ln -s /var/spool/news spool ln -s /var/log/news logs ln -s /var/run/news run ln -s /var/lib/news var -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
