The system doesn't freeze any more with Beta 3 (according the Stefan Dirsch's tests on 11.0 it didn't even freeze there any more). The remaining problem is that as soon as the lid switch is hit the screen turns white as the chip stops driving the panel but the backlight stays on. This should be looked into separately.
