libyui-qt-pkg does not use pkg-bindings at all (so it cannot make it slower),
it accesses libzypp directly.
On my testing system (13.1RC1 in VBox, updated to the current 13.1 snapshot) it
takes about 10 seconds (but on the other hand it is quite powerful machine -
i7-2600 3.4GHz CPU).
So I looked into it and I found this:
openSUSE-13.1 OSS takes about 10 seconds (21405 packages)
openSUSE-12.3 OSS takes about 8 seconds (19689 packages)
and surprisingly
openSUSE-11.4 OSS takes about 2 seconds (but *only* 3894 packages!)
(The times are not exact, I used my stopwatch.)
The performance is roughly the same, 5.5 times more packages takes about 5 time
more time (13.1: 21405/10 = 2140pkgs/s, 11.4: 3894/2 = 1947pkgs/s)
For me it takes about 5 times more time, which perfectly matches our
observation (6 seconds vs 30 seconds).
So the slowdown is caused by 5 time more packages in OSS repo.
Resolving as INVALID.
