http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=586830 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=586830#c0 Summary: browsers do not use secondary dns when primary returns error Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: benderamp@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.4; Linux) KHTML/4.4.1 (like Gecko) SUSE Web browsers (at least firefox and konqueror) do not use secondary dns when primary returns error. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure your current network+DNS works 2. Edit /etc/resolv.conf as root and add new bad DNS server above the working existing - for example one might probably take the one from my old provider (195.98.32.193) which supposingly does not accept requests from external ip addresses and returns "status: REFUSED" when test with "dig" command 3. try ping some site (like google.com or yandex.ru) - should work ok. 4. try opening same site in web browser (firefox or konqueror) - both would show error window immediately. Expected Results: As soon as ping works fine for some site, web browser should work fine too - if primary DNS returns error code, they should try secondary DNS. If I put some non-existing ip address as primary DNS, the browser does not show error message, but thinks for some visible ammount of time and then shows the page. Also, for example, android phone works fine even if the 1st DNS it receives by DHCP is incorrect (would return error code) - so in my case (when router return faulty primary dns server and normal secondary DNS server) I hade notebook with opensuse with non-working browsers and working android phone in same LAN. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
