The other problem is that snapshots of root aren't that big if you have a stable distribution but if you use Factory, early Milestones or Tumbleweed the size requirement could increase substantially. If you use the automatic partitioning with btrfs the root partition is already 20 GB but since not everybody can or wants to use this feature I would still suggest to integrate a warning if a btrfs root has less than 20 GB. Maybe the cron job of snapper can monitor the size of the root partition and if it goes below a certain limit, like 1 GB or similar, it starts to delete old snapshots. If this behavior is documented this shouldn't be a problem I think and snapshots on the same hard disk as the original should never be the only backup option.
