Just tried the patch and Nautilus does not crash any more - which is very cool - I can turn on the preview again in Nuatilus without it crashing all the time.
However - I do not get preview thumbnails for the .ORF files - just an icon. Is this a separate bug?
I also noticed the thumbnails were not generated. IIRC, dolphin in kde doesn't generate thumbnails for large image files. I am not sure if nautilus also has the same behavior. Please file another bug and I'll investigate it further.
