[Bug 801473] Closing the lid doesn't suspend the laptop and some the buttons to control the brightness doesn't work

Are you sure this is working properly at all ? One way to test it is to open a VT, logged as root, and run "cat /dev/input/event2" (if event2 is binded to lid switch) and close and open the lid.
