It's been a while since I've seen one so I forgot about it. ich6m is intel's first stab at ahci and is unique from all other ich ahcis. In all later versions, the BIOS determines which mode the controller is put into and PCI ID changes accordingly. In ich6m, PCI ID remains the same and the controller can be driven by either ahci or ata_piix. In your case, the BIOS didn't configure AHCI BAR (mmio on BAR5) and thus ahci can't initialize. In this case, ata_piix should be used as fallback which I think is happening given that you're using the machine now, right? So, the init error is expected and can be ignored. ahci is basically saying I tried it but it's not mine. Resolving as INVALID.
