There should not have been any hardware changes. But isn't the point of using /dev/disk/by-id that it will not get messed up due to the BIOS order?
Yes, for other bootloaders it work good. But grub needs bios order (thats why bios use hd0 and not device id, because it doesn't load udev, which create this device), so it doesn't help. But to your problem...when you install do you really have three disks?
