--- Comment #2 from Lucas Silacci
Hi, would it be possible to attach the first two sectors of the disk (run 'dd if=/dev/sda of=/tmp/file_you_send_me bs=512 count=2') so that we can see the contents of the critical sectors after installation?
I'll attach two mbrs: mbr.before - A copy of the mbr before I run the install mbr.after - A copy of the mbr at the point of the grub install failure Here's the details of the install steps I am going to do for this test: 1. Rebooted to the Service Partition and put the disk back to the original state (WinXP and service partititon installed only) 2. Boot to rescue mode and captured mbr (mbr.before) 3. Boot to installation and choose the following options: A. Automatic Configuration B. Selected KDE 4.1 C. Partition Setup: (see attached fdisk output) 1. Delete WinXP partition 2. Leave Service partition (sda2) 3. Create 2GB swap partition (sda1) 4. Use rest of disk for root partition (sda3) D. Installation Overview double-check the grub settings: 1. Write Generic Boot Code to MBR is *not* set 2. Boot from Boot Partition *is* set 3. I modified the boot menu order E. Installation Overview final settings for booting looks like this: Booting * Boot Loader Type: GRUB * Location: /dev/sda3 ("/boot") * Sections: + openSUSE 11.1 (default) + Failesafe -- openSUSE 11.1 + Service Partition F. Kicked off the install G. Boot loader install fails, and this is the point I've captured the file mbr.after -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
