https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=489029 Summary: Change the Default Automated Installation to be an Option and Make a NON-Automated Installation the Default Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Alpha 0 Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.1.6 Firefox/3.0.7 The Automated Installation Default of the opensuse V11.n assumes far too many conditions are present and many users have ran away as they have found the default automated installation does not seemingly work due to the absence of many assumptions that are made by an Automated Installation. I think we need to consider changing the Default installation to be Non-Automated and an Automated Installation to be the Option. In other words swap the default to an Non-Automated Installation. For Discussion Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: If any of the assumed characteristics of a default PC in the way of Video/Network Hardware are not present the default automated Installation will fail. Expected Results: If we change the default to be Non-Automated and offer an Automated Installation as an option we have a far greater sucess rate in performing an Installation that would ordinarily fail due to the PC's Environment/components etc. I know this request would have much opposition, however I feel we need to have this discussion -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
