(Well, at least if it says very clear to the user what will happen) After some more thinking, I'd suggest that bootloader installer clearly distinguished 2 different cases (options) to the user: 1. The installer takes care of everything. That is, it guarantees successfull bootup in some consistent manner (from the very switch on of the box to the start of the kernel) In this case it _definitly_ has to overwrite MBR, set/reset boot flags for partitions as it finds necessary, and ensure that GRUB/LILO/whatever configuration is consistent (say, extended partition should not be selected as boot unless LILO is prepared to support that, etc, etc...) This might be offered as the default, recommended option. (If there is no other OS or if the user is unwilling/unable to take care of it) 2. The installer only takes care of its own partition and _never_ thouches anything outside. In this case the installer only needs to configure bootloader to boot from root/boot partition, mark it as bootable and assume everything else is OK already. This might be offered as an advanced option for expert users only. (It would quite make sense for a computer with several other OSes already configured carefully) As it is now, the installer looks like it gives freedom to make some choises, but I'd say the options either seem a bit vague or behave somewhat different then expected (except in the very simple/default case). Yes it is usable, but there is some room for improvement. Hoping it gets perfect eventually :) Anyway, thanks for the great work! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
