https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=462644 Summary: update from 11.0 confuses desktop Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bobharvey@europe.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Community User Created an attachment (id=262521) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=262521) creengrab of desktop showing properties of all 3 online helps I updated from 11.0 to 11.1 by changing all my repositories, including local iso images, to point to 11.1 versions & running zypper clean; zypper refresh; zypper dup. So far I have only spotted a handful of oddities. This desktop thing is the most obvious. I acquired a 2nd 'openSUSE' and 2 more 'Online Help'. The new openSUSE was on top of the original 'bobh's Home'. I had the dickens of a job to separate them for this screenshot. The two locked icons appear to be in /usr/share/dist/desktop-files. When I try to move them I get the sort of error in the middle of the screengrab, because the originals are still there. I imagine the update wasn't expecting to find the originals - I bet most testers deleted them log ago. The 3rd OnlineHelp looks identical in its properties box to the original, which makes no sense. Look at the ls listing on the screendump Now I've told you the tale I shall see what happens when I try some fixes: Delete 3rd 'Online Help'. Icon vanishes. File Support.desktop gone from ls listing. Delete original 'Online Help'. Icon vanishes. File GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop has gone. Move remaining OnlineHelp. Icon stays in same place, still with padlock. New file GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop appears. Try moving Icon again. Get the dialogue about the file already existing in /home/bobh/Desktop. Edit File GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop looking for xy position in case the new one is under the troublesome one. No co-ordinates Delete new File GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop - desktop unchanged Delete original 'openSUSE'. Icon vanishes. File SuSE.desktop has gone. I have ended up with the same number of icons I started with. But two of them are padlocked and can't be moved or deleted. 'bobh's home' has had to be moved down. I am sure that wasn't supposed to happen. PS: only 2 of the 6 things on my desktop are there because of entries in ~/Desktop. The others appear by magic. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
