Which session manager do you use (kdm, kdm3, gdm)?
This was answered indirectly in comment 8. As alluded to in comment 0, normally on test systems I boot with 3 on cmdline, and use startx to init the sole intentionally installed DM. Last night to see if it made any difference on host gx62b I tried an init 5 on tty3 to start the login manager, but the expected switch to tty7 never happened, and there was no X session to be found on any tty, just a fresh Xorg.0.log reporting another segfault. To confirm, just now I rebooted with 5 instead of 3 on cmdline, Started LSB: X Display Manager appeared on tty1, but no switch to tty7 occurred, and "kdm[1244]: X server died during startup; kdm[1244]: X server for display:0 can't be started, session disabled" appears on tty10. kdebase3-kdm-3.5.10.1-296.3.i586 is the only X dm package intentionally installed on host gx62b. All my hosts have only the dm matching the kdebase version installed, plus xdm if I didn't uninstall it, which on gx62b is xdm-1.1.10-2.1.i586.
Does the session manager start well?
I don't think so. See attached .xsession-errors. I just looked at gx62b's /etc/sysconfig/windowmanger, where DEFAULT_WM was set to kde. I changed it to startkde, which is what works on 11.4, but it didn't help. DISPLAYMANAGER in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager is set to kdm, which is what works in 11.4 with KDE3 When I do 'rpm -e --nodeps glamor', which forces X to FBDEV & 1152x864 instead of INTEL & 1600x1200, then startx brings up working KDE3. Reinstalling glamor-0.4.1-1.1.i586 brings the segfault on X startup right back. Removing 05-glamor.conf from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ has the same effect as uninstalling glamor. Removing 50-device.conf, 50-monitor.conf & 50-screen.conf from xorg.conf.d/ makes KDE3 work using INTEL in 1600x1200, but with microscopic fonts (10 set for most fonts in "KControl", which look like about size 7) due to too low (96) DPI. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
