https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473716 Summary: Incorrectly installing x86_64 on a x86 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: erikina@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 I messed up my kernel, so I used the openSUSE recovery from my boxed set. I didn't notice in the grub menu the (quite hidden) option to change from x86_64 (default) to x86 (My computer is a pentium 4). I proceeded with the system recovery and it reinstalled my kernel. However after booting, my graphics was messed up and would cause the computer to hard freeze. After booting in run level 3, I discovered that the kernel was running with x86_64 variety (as revealed by uname -a). I've since reinstalled the system. The /proc/cpuinfo of my computer is: processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 4 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz stepping : 9 cpu MHz : 3058.988 cache size : 1024 KB fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmovpat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx lm constant_tsc uppebs bts pni monitor ds_cpl tm2 cid cx16 xtpr lahf_lm bogomips : 6117.97 clflush size : 64 power management: Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
