Anyway, I don't particularly like the idea of making both 'desktop settings' and 'system settings' directly accessible via the main menu. I see some wisdom in making only some basic settings (i.e. the gnome control center) accessible from the main menu - because otherwise a user would have to contemplate what it is he wants to change and which of the two icons he should click on to do that. Better have a sequence; many of the more common administrative tasks (like setting up a printer) can be performed within the gnome control center, too.
