http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537887 Summary: The YaST Samba Server configuration should have a field for editing the description. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 6 Platform: PC OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: malv_star@hotmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-1.2 Firefox/3.5.2 The Samba Server configuration component in YaST allows users to set shares, workgroup, netbios identifier and WINS server for the machine, however it does not allow the user to set the description field. The is somewhat inconvenient as the default description is always the Samba version string, meaning that Windows machines (which display the description string FIRST when viewing the network) will group all Linux machines on the network together. It would be helpful to be able to set this field without enabling swat or editing the Samba config file. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Not applicable. Actual Results: Any machine viewing the machines in the same workgroup will see the Linux machine denoted by a long, confusingly-named string. Expected Results: It would be preferable to allow the user to set this at the same time as they set the netbios identifier. Perhaps a small text-entry box just below the identifier box in the UI would be appropriate? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
