Many thanks to darix for his initial help. I found that file[:ext] returns the file extension along with a "." and the array which we use to compare don't have a "." with the extensions. Tested additionally with a .png and a .diff file. [Show] and [Edit] links do not show up for the PNG file, but they do show up for the patch file.
