http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=493100 Summary: NvIDIA Application Cannot Save Modification due Inability to Write or Merge with X11 Start-up Config File Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.1.6 Firefox/3.0.7 The NvIDIA change settings Application cannot save any changes or merge to X11 config file. Application has no auth to write or merge with this file. I would think that this issue only occurs when user elects to have default login user to have NO root authority - The Default action of Install is to make default login == root, If user elects default login user to have NO root authority many application cannot recognise this as request escalation at time of execution. See screen shot Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Nvidia Settings Application 2.Change nothing or change any action 3.Elect to either merge or write to X11 config File 4.Unable to write or merge with this file as user login has no root authprity. Actual Results: Unable to change anything in X11 config file from NvIDIA Application Settings Expected Results: If default user == non root and Nvidia Application called from menu - the application needs to request root authority if not present. Again it is clear the testing of 11.1 is only done of default Installation settings. If the user elects to change any of the default install setting there will always be errors as I suspect every application and Module can never cope with non-default Installation settings across the board. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
