I think this problem has been around for a while, but since I had a work-around (rcalsasound restart), I did not report it. I believe the first OpenSuSE I installed on this T23 was 11.1. I have had issues with suspend and resume for some time (see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483153), so I only recently have been using OpenSuSE for multimedia. As you requested, I got kernel-default-2.6.31.4-1.6.i586.rpm from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.2:/Update:/Test/stand... and installed it. Immediately after booting into it, sound worked. After suspending and resuming (fortunately, it did resume correctly the one time I tried it), there was no sound. After "rcalsasound restart" sound was back. This is the same behavior as with kernel 2.6.34.4-0.1-default. On-line update just installed kernel 2.6.34.7-0.2-default. Sound behavior is the same: works immediately after boot, no sound after suspend and resume (that still works), sound is back after "rcalsasound restart". I never did anything with alsa-driver. Is that still something to try? If it breaks something, will an uninstall fix it?
