https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845114 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845114#c0 Summary: btrfs: migrate var-subroots to /var partition as soon as one is selected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: All OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: estellnb@elstel.org QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; Warp 4.5; rv:10.0.11) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.11 The subpartition feature of btrfs is really groovy; that way you can save yourself from creating a lot of partitions just in order to save your machine from filesystem fragmentation. However there may be other reasons for distributing your installation among different partitions like non-raid based distribution of your data among disks do gain improved performance. This may even be faster than a single raid-btrfs because the reading heads of different hard disks can move independently. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: use btrfs for your root partition use btrfs for an additional var partition Actual Results: The var partition is not subpartitioned while the root partition still contains different subpartitions for var-data. In a fact you can not even manually remove the desired subpartitions from the root partition. Recreating the subpartitions additionally on /var works. Expected Results: var/crash, var/log, var/opt, var/spool, var/tmp of the root partition should become crash, log, opt, spool and tmp subpartitions of the /var-btrfs partition. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
