Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: poolbarde@web.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 I'm trying to install opensuse 12.2 on my new Notebook ASUS F201E with preinstalled Windows 8. Because this Notebook does not have an internal DVD drive, I have connected an external one using USB 2.0 connector. In the UEFI BIOS, i disabled 'Secure Boot Control'. Further I have enabled 'Launch CSM'. The hard disk is using GPT partition table. Using the x64 installation dvd of opensuse DVD, I can choose the normal and the UEFI boot option. But both are running into problems. X64 DVD, UEFI Boot ================== 1. ELILO is started 2. Last line in the boot messages is 'Activating USB devices...' 3. Then a blue screen with ncurses window appears telling 'Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive'. On console F3 I can see: ... Hardware detection finished insmod /modules/usbhid.ko insmod /modules/usb-storage.ko scanning devices dud url: disk:/?device=*usb*&all=1&quiet=1 Reading driver update: disk:/?device=*usb*&all=1&quiet=1 rescanning devices url mount: trying disk:/?device=*usb* No new driver updates found. repository: looking for cd:/ rescanning devices repository: not found no openSUSE repository found Automaitc setup not possible. On console F4 there are lot of lines with: BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 0 devices found EDD information not available. Seems my DVD drive was lost, so the installation process cant access the DVD anymore. X64 DVD, normal Boot (not UEFI) =============================== 1. The graphical grub boot menu appears and I select 'Installation'. I already tried the 'No ACPI' and 'No KMS' boot option, but installation always hangs. At least using 'No KMS' and 'No ACPI' I was able to see the full printouts on the screen as you'll read in the next lines. 2. Here are the last console printouts I can see: ... VFS: Cannot open root device "(null)" or unknown-block(0,0): error -6 Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: 0800 488386584 sda driver: sd 0801 307200 sda1 ... 0802 921600 sda2 ... 0803 131072 sda3 ... 0804 195354624 sda4 ... 0806 20981760 sda6 ...
