First it asks for the passphrase. If it times out the login prompt is shown. Using ctrl+d gives another prompt. But appearently no input is accepted, note the lone 's'. In followup attempts no input is accepted. And the final reboot is still waiting for the missing devices, which causes unneeded delay of reboot. All in all that user interface is bad. Unlikely our fault. As said earlier, the lack of separation between preparation and usage of block devices leads to this situation.
