An asterisk is shown when a timeout has been reached..

That is clear but it is not the actual issue which is reported here. Here is the requested strace output: https://susepaste.org/0168e74a For privacy reasons I have replaced the individual visible Internet IP addresses with "IP_ADDRESS_n" (where n is from 1 to 6), except for 192.168.x.x (the LAN addresses).

Output without the "-n" is similar.
