From my observations, unscd is much more unstable than nscd. At least we where not able to set it up to cache correctly in a 15k+ user environment. So I thought I just switch back to nscd (which I would recommend in genreal). The package is still available in openSUSE but does not ship a startup script, neither for systemd nor for classic init.
