http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=605786 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=605786#c0 Summary: 'xsettings plugin' to gnome-settings-daemon causes segfault in kde Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: drankinatty@suddenlinkmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Following the latest updates, the gnome-settings-daemon segfaults when started in kde to support non-qt apps like firefox, mozilla, etc.. The gnome-settings-daemon (gsd hereafter) starts and functions fine under gnome, but for kde, this leaves any gtk apps looking horrible. After struggling to find a solution, at least I was able to identify the exact component (plugin) to gsd that causes the segfault. The 'xsettings' plugin is to blame. '/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/xsettings/active' Using gconf-editor I disabled each plugin one-by-one until gsd started without error. Unfortunately, since the xsettings plugin controls the font rendering, etc. for gtk apps, disabling it and starting gsd has no effect on the look of gtk apps in kde. Using '/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon --debug &' I captured the full debug output for the crash. The relevant part is: [1273786127,000,xklavier.c:xkl_engine_start_listen/] The backend does not require manual layout management - but it is provided by the application The error to the terminal was: [1273770918,000,xklavier.c:xkl_engine_start_listen/] The backend does not require manual layout management - but it is provided by the application (gnome-settings-daemon:28671): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed [1]+ Segmentation fault /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemo I have tried reinstalling gsd and I have tried creating a new user and testing under that account and root. Same crash. I will include the full trace as an attachment. Let me know if I can send anything else. If I could just figure out what app got upgraded that is causing the segfault, I'd gladly downgrade just to get thunderbird working under kde again.
