I note this PC has two different 64-bit openSUSE-11.4 DVD installs (in different partitions) with no such problem ... so I would be surprised if it is the same. I think this is systemd script related. I note the install ONLY worked after I stopped trying to customize the configuration of the boot (ie boot code location, agreed to write custom code to MBR ... etc ... ). I think there is a bug in that script where it is not compatible with systemd. But that's wild speculation, possibly driven by systemd paranoia on my part.
