This morning I tried with a fresh KDE Live CD on the USB stick to start KDE
Live om my desktop, a 4 core AMD 64bit system with 4GB of memory.
After a very long time, too long in my perception, I finally got a KDE screen
that, with a lot of patience, did work more or less.
I succeeded to start the installer and started to configure a system to be
build on two test partitions / and /home.
I got at the point where I should enter a user. Normally when you enter the
full name the user name gets filled in. That did not happen. However entering
only letters for the name did not get accepted. The error message complaining
about illegal characters. So this did not succeed at all.
In the mean time I got several messages complaining about a low amount of user
space in /home, which should not happen. This is normal on a Live CD. There was
also a akonadi message.
Finally I decided to reboot from the USB, which again did not succeed, however
the system hangs at a different point, but not really more advanced than
before.
