https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846893 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846893#c0 Summary: Selecting "Encrypt device" for /home results in blank screen after reboot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jwagner@computing.dcu.ie QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 This happens during an installation with default options, except for "Suggested Partitioning": Steps: Edit partition setup - expand "Hard disk", click on 1st disk (on my virtual machine that's "vda") - click on the home partition (/dev/vda3) - click on "Edit..." - check box "Encrypt device", click "Next", enter password, Finish, Accept, Next After the first reboot (before automatic configuration), the screen is just black. Workaround: (1) Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 (also shows a black screen but with a blinking cursor) (2) Typing the password for /home blindly (no stars "****" are shown) (3) Hit "Enter" (CPU and harddrive use go up again and KDE starts with /home mounted correctly.) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: (1) Start installation from DVD with default options. (2) At step "Suggested Partitioning": Edit partition setup (3) Expand "Hard disk", (4) Click on 1st disk (on my virtual machine that's "vda") (5) Click on the home partition (/dev/vda3) (6) Click on "Edit..." (7) Check box "Encrypt device" (8) Click "Next" (9) Enter password 2x (10) Finish, Accept, Next (11) Continue installation with default options (12) Watch reboot Also, after somehow finishing the installation (see workaround below), reproduce by (13) Restart system Actual Results: After the first reboot (before automatic configuration), the screen is just black / blank. After a reboot after completed installation (see workaround below), the screen is still just black / blank. Expected Results: Some kind of input field (with instructions) should appear and accept the password for /home. Workaround: (1) Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 (also shows a black screen but with a blinking cursor) (2) Typing the password for /home blindly (no stars "****" are shown) (3) Hit "Enter" (CPU and harddrive use go up again and configuration/installation continues and KDE starts with /home mounted correctly.)
