is this 10.3 or 11.0 ? (the only change in this area was in 11.0)
The bug report says 10.3 "final".
anyway: the initrd takes care of the root-fs (mounting,checking,mounting-rw), so why should the normal boot scripts touch that again ?
I see this as _one_ system: It should work, whatever the responsibilities are.
did you specify "readonly" on the boot commandline ?
