https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=255643 Summary: SUSE 10.2 doesn't work with MSI DVD-ROM Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: michael@evard.de QAContact: qa@suse.de I changed 3 of 2 computers from 10.0 to 10.2 (new installation with DVD) on two computers with different hardware the Installation failed several times. Hardware: 1. ASUS A7N8X (Atlon, nforce), DVD-ROM, DVD-recorder, one IDE HDD 2. Asrock K7S8X (Athlon,SIS), DVD-ROM, one IDE HDD. the first reboot during Installation failed the systems freezed. (I leaved the installation DVD in the DVD-ROM during reboot) after installation at normal use every time I put a DVD in the DVD-ROM the automount failed (I mean absolutly nothing happens) but you won't get the DVD out if you're waiting to long. often the system freezed complete. on tty 10 the message was like this: hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } ide: failed opcode was: unknown hdc: DMA disabled hdc: ATAPI reset complete hdc: irq timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } ide: failed opcode was: unknown hdc: ATAPI reset complete hdc: irq timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } ide: failed opcode was: unknown hdc: status timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } ide: failed opcode was: unknown hdc: drive not ready for command hdc: ATAPI reset complete and XXX@paule:~> lshal --monitor Start monitoring devicelist: ------------------------------------------------- storage_model_ATAPI_DVD_ROM_16XMax property storage.removable.media_available = true storage_model_ATAPI_DVD_ROM_16XMax property storage.removable.media_size = 3880845312 (0xe7510000) (new) (pushing the eject . button) storage_model_ATAPI_DVD_ROM_16XMax property storage.removable.media_available = false. I tried many many bootoptions / Bios settings - no effect. Only when I tried boot-option "insmod=ide-generic" I had no more system failure and messages on tty 10 but also no automount. After changing the DVD-ROM drives to new ones from LG every thing was fine and very stable. Same effect with 10.3 / I never try 10.1 The DVD-ROM was a MSI type D16(MS-8216) and D16(MS8216S). PS: I think 50% of the bug's with DVD written here are the same problem. please correct this bug or make a remark in the release notes, cause it is very difficult to find this problem caused by a crummy IDE drive. I never had such heavy problems since 7.2 so long - your mike -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
