https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230213 Summary: Everytime I insert my PCMCIA card, the device number is increased by one Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de I have a Netgear WG511. Since using it with 10.2 the device-number, i.e. ethx, is increased by one every time I insert it into the slot. It seems to start with eth0 and then switch to the last number plus one, e.g. eth7. The first iwconfig was issued just a few moments after inserting the card, the second one a few seconds later, when the card's LED began to blink. Regarding the directory-listing. I am not sure where the second WLAN-MAC comes from, since I only have one network-card and one WLAN-card and never inserted any others. I am not sure why the device is renamed, but this breaks any application (eg. network-monitor) that works with a manually entered devicename. eth0 NOT READY!
