http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542540 Summary: High latency with e1000 driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wilken_g@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009080200 SUSE/3.0.13-0.1 Firefox/3.0.13 The e1000 driver causes a very high latency in network traffic if it runs with an Intel PRO/1000 MT (82541GI). Even common pings need about 1-2 seconds and there is a packet loss of about 5%. The issue got introduced with the 2.6.27 kernel line and every kernel up to 2.6.32 is affected. It also happens with SLES 11 and the .29/.31 RT and Vanilla kernels from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/. The issue got introduced by the e1000 change from 7.3.20-k2 to 7.3.21-k3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Just grab a computer with a Intel 82541GI GbE network card. 2. Connect it to a network (no matter if 100 or 1000 MBit) 3. Just do some pings. Actual Results: Pings respond very slow and jump from ~30 ms to ~4500 ms. Sometimes packets are lost. Expected Results: Pings should show up very fast and steady. Ping times should be about 0.015 ms to 0.050 ms. We tested all kind of parameters during loading of e1000 and ethtool parameters. It was possible to reduce the very high pings of 4500 ms to about 2500 ms, but the average ping stays at about 1300 ms. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
