https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=686567 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=686567#c0 Summary: Network configuration based on static routes leads to initial problems Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100626 SUSE/3.6.6-1.1 Firefox/3.6.6 After upgrade to openSUSE 11.4 (or fresh install, has no impact), I face a somewhat strange issue with network. I have a static configuration, say net 192.168.44.X, default route 192.168.44.1, using this since years (about suse 9.3 without change). Hence I configure the network card statically from within yast2, setting up routing - all works fine, apparently. I can access internet, can surf, can browse. However, now I am trying to update via yast because there are new updates available. Update starts until file 3 of X, the download of file 3 (arbitrary ...) starts and suddenly stops. I cannot download this file, update fails due to a timeout. Then I use firefox, try to download this file - same behaviour, download say 10kByte, then stop. _ANY_ mirror of opensuse depicts this behaviour, be it http or ftp. I can try ftp on the commandline, I can try midnight commander, whatsoever. File 3 cannot be downloaded. "route" depicts normal values, ifconfig too. ping whatever host on the internet works. Now I do once: ifdown eth0 ifup eth0 and the issue is gone. No more problems. This is weird, I haven't seen something similar in years. Can anyone anticipate what could cause this problem? Previous openSUSE verisons worked flawlessly (9.3, 10.3, 11.3) on the very same machine. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you for looking into this, take care Dieter Jurzitza Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See chapter "Details" Actual Results: See chapter "Details" Expected Results: See chapter "Details" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
