Thanks. I think init 3; init 5 will probably be useful, but make sure everything owned by gdm really dies in between. A restart would be ideal.
I'm interested in knowing:
- If this happens on first login. - If it goes away when you log out to the GDM screen. - If it happens/comes back/stays the same when you log in again.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to do this, and upgraded in the meantime. I can no longer reproduce the problem.
