https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772967 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772967#c0 Summary: Spread resources more evenly – disallow time consuming build jobs by default Classification: Internal Novell Products Product: openSUSE Build Service Version: 2.0 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: backend AssignedTo: mls@suse.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: adrian@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/22.0.1190.0 Safari/537.1 SUSE/22.0.1190.0 To keep the resources spread evenly it does not make sense IMHO to allow everybody to create build jobs that keep a host busy for 28 hours+. Example: https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log?arch=i586&package=libatlas3&project=Application%3AGeo&repository=openSUSE_Factory [102297s] make[6]: Leaving directory `/home/abuild/rpmbuild/BUILD/ATLAS/i386_sse2/interfaces/blas/C/src' I have the log in case it does not exists anymore. Of course there are use cases where it does make sense to dedicate a build host for hours to a package – yet certainly not by default. Keeping rebuilding that kind of package if its deps change even if it fails for weeks is another matter. So the feature request is to kill all build jobs that last longer than an average kernel build by default and thus allow obs to use its resources more evenly among its users. The packages of build jobs that were killed because they took too long should be disabled in order to not waste any resources on repeated attempts to build them.
